India's 64th independence day was observed in great pomp and show like the previous sixty three years. The military showed its prowess, the president and the prime minister gave speeches which were circulated several times in the national televisions. Thousands gathered at New Delhi to watch the parade, and millions kicked back at home, happy to enjoy a holiday on Monday, and beaming with patriotism as soon as they could get up at 9 a.m in the morning.
Amidst all the hustle and the energy, a tiny Boeing 747 left the Mumbai airport, carrying forth scores of Indians, including a multi cellular organism called ME, to a foreign soil at the same stroke of the midnight hour when India awoke to freedom sixty four years back.
The day had arrived suddenly, after months of procrastination that it would, eventually. I took all my luggage, safely packed by my parents who were leaving their son into the "dark cruel foreign world". The moments before I left , I took a few pictures with them, to serve as a memento for the time I was going to be away. I suggest you to do this too. On dark nights, it helps, well, a little ! A sample of the same remains above.
After countless goodbyes, and rechecking of email ids, finally I boarded a cab and made my way to the Calcutta Airport. My route was a bit hectic. Calcutta to Bombay to Frankfurt to Copenhagen to Lund. Wow !! And I didnt know what waited for me on the trip ! Lucky me !
